If you are reading this page, I guess that you have decided to go for an Oracle certification exam; you might probably have decided the exam code too; or you might be interested in going for it in future and are gathering info for building your preparation strategy !

Below are few tips which helped me in clearing my Oracle certification exams. I hope these will be helpful, both from passing the exam(s) and knowledge gaining perspective.
- Each and every exam has a syllabus associated with it. Find the syllabus from exam info page and keep it handy.
Referring to syllabus is very important, if you don't, you might NOT prepare for the "exam needed" topic, or WILL prepare for "non-exam related" topic.
Say if you go for Oracle 11g Database Admin I exam (1Z0-052), as you can guess this actually has a very broad scope, but for exam testing perspective, only required/relevant topics will be included in the syllabus. So always go by syllabus, keep it handy in your preparation book. Its there on associated exam information page at oracle.com. - Approximately every Oracle exam has a course book from "Oracle Press" (Publisher Tata McGraw Hill) associated with it. So its recommended to purchase it, as its organised strictly as per syllabus and provides good exam preparation. It will have lots of practice questions and 1 or 2 practice tests too. If this book is not available, get some other book related to that exam. A good book is a must have. Exam books by Oracle press are good to refer for respective exam code.
- Remember, the book alone is not sufficient, but is very-very handy for preparation and success.
- Go thru topics as per syllabus, keep on doing hands-on practice in SQL*Plus or SQL Developer for actually learning the technology. This is a must, as you may get surprising questions in exam, and practice will enable you to answer those easily.
- Apart from books and doing practice, there are some practice exams too. You can search internet for those, but DO NOT cram them, they are NOT fully reliable from exam perspective, DO NOT think them to be the exact would be exam questions. They are for practice only, for checking and verifying your knowledge.
- While practising, if you answer a question wrong, do hands-on on that. That's the best way to learn and ensure things.
Remember: the practice papers available freely on internet might not be having correct answers, best way to ensure the answers is to do hands-on.
